Big hair ladies

It’s my birthday on Saturday. I’ll be 40. Where did the time go?

When I was younger, I thought of 20’s as being an adult. You know, having a job, paying bills, getting married and having kids. People in their 40’s were already old. Now I’m turning 40 and I feel like I might just got out of my teens.

You know how when you’re young, you depend on your parents to take care of adult things. And that somewhat stretches into adulthood. Depends on the relationship you have with your parents. It’s just easier for moms to make your appointments and stuff.

It was the time when I had to make an appointment with my kid’s pediatrician that I realized I’m the mom now. From now on, I’ll be the one making appointments for my kid. It hit me then that I’m an adult now. Yeah, I was almost 40 when I realized that.

Another time I had to give myself a pep talk. I don’t remember what exactly happened but I remember saying to myself, "Natasha, you’re almost 40, you’re an adult, act like it. You can’t let people treat you like you’re a teenager." I have to remind myself that now and again and stand up for myself.

That's why I waited to have a kid because I didn't feel like an adult capable of raising a child.

When was it that you felt like an adult?

P.S. This post was scheduled but I thought I'd let you know that my husband died yesterday of heart failure.

Curvy Ladies

These ladies were made for a Curvy Ladies swap over at ATCsforAll forum. I always draw skinny girls, so this was a lovely change.

We had a holiday yesterday in honor of culture and most museums, galleries and such have free entrance on this day. We took this opportunity and went to visit Lipica stud farm. Of course horses are a hit with the kid. Any animal is. He has ridden ponies twice before and we thought he'll get to ride again but the rides were all sold until the afternoon, so we passed this time.

We enjoyed seeing the Lipizzaner horses, museums and exhibitions. I was actually surprised when the kid got excited about a painting exhibition. The gallery was covered from ceiling to (almost) floor with paintings. Mostly colorful abstracts and he loved it.

When we got home, he played with his toy horse for the rest of the day. We were shown how to saddle a horse and he tried to saddle his toy horse by himself.

Fox and butterfly RR

I started this Round Robin with a fox, MissM added a butterfly and IamWhatonearth finished with the background.

It's my boy's 3rd Birthday today. He got some birthday money from my grandmother, his great grandmother and we're taking him shopping for a micro scooter. I think that's how it's called in English.

Also, I made it a tradition to have his photos professionally taken on his birthday. This year though it's not going as planned. The photographer I set up the shoot with stopped responding to my e-mails and it was nerve wracking. Especially since I already paid for the session. It turned out, she scammed someone else, too, so I lost hope of having the photo session tomorrow.

I guess I'll have to improvise and do something myself. It's hard though when they're this age. For Christmas photo shoot I got one good picture out of 40 that I managed to make before he lost interest.

Do you have any birthday traditions?

Wizard of Oz

When was the last time you've seen Wizard of Oz? I honestly can't recall. It must've been in elementary school. I never read the book though.

It's funny how some things stay in your memory and others don't. In researching to make these ATCs for a swap, I can't recall I ever saw the Jack Pumpkinhead character. In the middle it's Glinda the good witch and of course Dorothy and Toto.

I remember watching a documentary or something where it showed Judy Garland behind the scenes as Dorothy and how extra she had to act to satisfy director's vision. I guess that's an evolution of movies. I can't watch even my favorite movies from 20 years ago because the acting is so bad. It's all more realistic these days.

Steampunk Round Robin

Round Robin is a set of 3 cards which one artist starts, send to another to add something to the set and then sends to the third artist to finish everything. Each artist keeps a card that's why there are 3 in a set.

Linda4atc started this one with the steampunk guy, MissM added the cow and I finished with the floating islands.

I had this idea and I wrote a bedtime story for my kid and he loves it. He makes me read it to him every day at least 3 times. It's written in my notebook but I think I'm going to jazz it up with some illustrations and make it into a book. I haven't been this excited for a long time. :)

What's exciting to you these days?

Angels

These are two ATCs that I drew together and they ended up with half a face on each card.

Randomness:
  • It's raining a lot these days as oppose to snowing every other day like last month.
  • I'm still learning Spanish at our local library. It's supposed to be only for December but teacher decided to keep going through January at least, if not longer. I'm very happy about that.
  • The kid is picking up some unwanted language from adults. So, that's fun.
  • I'm on a lookout for a spiderman costume for our Mardi Gras or whatever is called our version of Halloween next month.
  • How's your new year like two weeks in?

Jack and Sally RR

Round Robin is a set of 3 cards which one artist starts, send to another to add something to the set and then sends to the third artist to finish everything. Each artist keeps a card that's why there are 3 in a set.

I started this set with Jack Skellington, BexMadeMe added Sally and Linda4atc finished with the background.

Hope everyone had a lovely time over the holidays and New Year's.
